Betting on the Gold Medal Game
We are just about down to the playoffs. With one more day of games left before the playoffs start, a betting man needs to start thinking about where the smart bet is for the Gold medal game. Olympic hockey betting is a finicky thing. There have already been upsets, and close games that should not have been close at all. Canada barely defeating Switzerland is a good example, as well as Canada losing to the US in the preliminaries and Russia losing to Slovakia. The two powers coming into the tournament are not rated first and second like most people thought. Instead, Russia is ranked third while Canada is ranked sixth. Here are some things to pay attention to when laying down money on the Gold medal game.
Place your bet now for the outright win if you think a favourite will win: The odds are better if you place now. The longer you wait, the more teams that get eliminated. Sure in theory you could say well there will be better odds for some teams not likely to win. But they are not favoured for a reason they are not supposed to win. If you think Team Canada is going to win, then place your bet now for favourites.
Wait to bet if you think an underdog will win: your odds will only get better as time passes. Unlike the favourites, whose odds will only get worse, the underdog odds will only get better favour you more as time passes. This is because they are not expected to actually win the Gold. So the fact that they made it this far in the tournament means that they should be happy with where they got to and are essentially playing with house money.
